Statement of Intent 2012-2013
Name: Will Nash
Tutor/s: Phillip Trenerry & Caroline Pedler
Module: AD32
Date: 1st December 2013
- Design a mythical beast – 47 Ronin
- Xbox One controller design
- Puffin Design award 2014
- Gamer pic design
- Theme: Japanese monster
- Genre: Mythical beast
- Context: Japanese style, live action film
- Audience: A wide audience
- Relevance and Purpose: I feel that my designs often incorporate designs of animals and creatures, I find this easy to do and enjoy the design process and bringing it to life. For this project I have already decided on a concept for a design based on a Japanese snow monkey, I have already done some successful monkey designs and feel this will contribute to the success of this final.
- Project 2: XBOX ONE controller design
- Theme: Classic game characters
- Genre: Hardware skin design
- Context: Open
- Audience: Client of a similar age
- Relevance and Purpose: As it's a live brief I feel I will be more enthusiastic in terms of time management, trying to get it completed before the finish date. I also feel that I understand the clientèle and Microsoft's general themes used throughout the xbox designs to date.
- Theme: 'The outsiders'
- Genre: Book cover
- Context: Childrenʼs Storybook cover
- Audience: 'Teenagers'
- Relevance and Purpose: I think this brief is a good choice as it fits what I would like to do in the future in terms of career and jobs. I think that it would benefit me with learning to cope with deadlines and create good work within a time scale, as well as being a relatively broad brief, having freedom to explore designs I want to look into.
- Theme: British wildlife
- Genre: Thumbnail image
- Context: Profile pictures
- Audience: 'Teenagers'
- Relevance and Purpose: I think this brief is a good choice for me because it is an open theme and I can chose my own, so I decided British wildlife, and intend to create the characters in cute and fun ways. It is also a small brief so if I find I have spare time or feel it would improve the quality of my work then I intend to do it last.
- Aims:
- Project
1 – 47 Ronin monster design
- I
will create a design practicing with my vector style (monkey image)
including a great degree of detail and complexity. I want the design
to be original and suit the brief given, as well as to hand it in in
good time for the deadline. I will look at the brief and where my
designs would be posted and bear this in mind whilst making my rough
designs.
- Project
2 – Xbox controller design
Project 1: Design a mythical beast – 47 Ronin
Project 3: Puffin design award 2014 'The outsiders'
Project
4: 'Design a 'Gamerpic' for xbox'
Project 3 – Puffin book design
I aim to produce the front and back cover for the story book for the Puffin design award 2014. I will adhere to the brief and produce a high quality illustration that will be successful enough to put in my portfolio. I want to go through a design process of possible ideas relating to the story and main points, this will also require gaining a better knowledge of the plot and characters. I will do this through research and possibly listening to the audiobook whilst doing other illustration work.
I aim to create a collection of 6 thumbnail sized character designs for use on xbox profiles. I want them to be stylised and unique as well as look like legitimate designs usable for online profile avatars.
